The Wood

Siamese rosewood, also known as Thai rosewood, is renowned for its rich reddish-brown coloring and interlocking grain patterns. Prized in Southeast Asian woodworking traditions, it offers excellent durability and a natural oil content that helps resist moisture. The warm tones deepen beautifully with age and use, developing a rich patina that makes each handle more beautiful over time.

Purpose-built for deba and other single-bevel Japanese knives, this handle features a slightly wider profile to accommodate the heavier blade geometry. Crafted from premium Siamese rosewood with its rich reddish-brown tones and interlocking grain, finished with a buffalo horn ferrule. Traditional octagonal shape for confident grip.

Deba knives are fishmongers’ tools, meant to be levered against fish-bone to separate meat from backbone — the grip has to take torque that a regular slicer never sees. The slightly thicker cross-section of this handle absorbs those forces comfortably, and Siamese rosewood’s interlocking grain resists splitting along the force lines better than straight-grained woods.

Details: Wider octagonal profile (deba-sized) · Siamese rosewood body · Buffalo horn ferrule · Fits deba-style tang · Hand-shaped for single-bevel knife balance

About this wood — Siamese Rosewood

Siamese Rosewood (trac, trắc) is a dense Dalbergia with deep red-brown heartwood and a lasting rose-like scent when worked. A traditional luthier and carver's wood; our Deba handles use it for both character and weight.

Care

Wipe dry; re-oil with food-safe mineral oil every 6-12 months.

Fit notes

Use this Octagonal (Deba) handle as a fit-first choice: confirm blade length, tang size, and current balance before ordering. Siamese Rosewood changes the feel in the hand, while Buffalo Horn sets the visual transition at the blade side.

Maintenance notes

Wipe the handle dry after washing, avoid soaking or dishwasher heat, and check the ferrule joint if you notice movement, swelling, gaps, or odor. Refresh dry wood lightly with food-safe oil only when the surface looks thirsty.
